TIPS:

 

1. Go to Google.com/patents

2. Download the pdf's if you can, they are great because they are complete copies and they have the official drawings as well.

3. If you still can't find anything on Google Patents, or if the pdf's are not available, you're going to want to go to the USPTO Website. The USPTO Website will not be as user-friendly, and you will not be able to download pdf's. However, it is more thorough and has more options at your disposal.

4. You will want to search both the "Issued Patents" and the Published Applications.

5. Make sure to click "1790-present".

6. Start out with the title, work your way to abstract, and then claims, in that order. If you have time, also work the other areas as well.

7. You may still want to meet with an attorney to go over your results because there may still be some additional issues which require additional legal analysis.
